The twin philosophies underpinning Present Moment´s approach to life are ‘transformation´ and ´abundance’- in other words, life-changing joy. They undoubtedly have an uncanny knack of making their guests' experiences as unique as the guests themselves. Some people come for serenity, some for romance, some for a fun-filled vacation and almost everyone leaves feeling satisfied. This is because Present Moment organizes all activities with a level of skill and attention to detail that shows an expertise in each area. The surf classes are run by certified instructors at some of the best surf spots in the country; the yoga classes are conducted by highly qualified teachers, the world-class food is cooked by top chefs, the hut accommodations were designed and built in complete sympathy with traditional Mexican style. In short, Present Moment don't add a feature to their retreat unless they can do it well.
The retreat offerings are simple yet cover all tastes. There's the Restore and Refresh option which is an all-inclusive seven-day package that covers accommodation, food, and indulgent activities like morning meditation and a guided adventure tour. There is also a choice of up to four daily classes including yoga, dance classes and a range of water activities, among others. The A La Carte option is priced per-night with a minimum of two nights. This package is for those who prefer more flexibility in their getaways and more spontaneous decisions about what activities they would like to do each day. Finally, the Surf Packages come in three styles: A straight surf tour of the area's best spots, a Surf/A La Carte combination, and the very popular Yoga Surf package, which combines daily yoga sessions with surfing lessons.
Accommodation at Present Moment is in traditionally-styled Mexican thatch bungalows perched on the edge of the sand. These local designs are perfect for capturing the cool sea breezes, as there is only one air-conditioned bungalow on the whole property which must be reserved well in advance. Walls do not extend all the way to the ceiling, making the gentle sounds of the surrounding natural environment a constant and soothing white noise. Each bungalow is styled in a theme - examples are Wisdom, Harmony, and Tranquility, named for retreat-owner Tom Morisette’s personal philosophies. These inspiring names are well-reflected in the bungalows’ décor and layout - luxurious, yet perfectly sympathetic to their surroundings.
The Teacher Training Course is not just for aspiring yoga teachers. It is for any yogi who wants to sink a little deeper into the Open-Heart, Open-Mind philosophy that guides not only Present Moment but yoga as a whole. Accredited with the International Yoga Alliance, the 200-hour program runs over three weeks and is held twice each year, beginning in early May and late October. Mornings are for meditation and asanas, while the afternoon is devoted to classes in yoga theory and philosophy, diet and nutrition, healing and anatomy.
As Present Moment is a retreat, the moderate fee also includes the kind of extras that are not found in a straight yoga center or ashram. Massage and bodywork, surf lessons, kayaking as horse-back riding are all in the package, making this a great combination of fun and serious yoga studies.
One of the teachers is the co-founder of Present Moment, the certified and skilled Ananda Page. The other teachers are no less skilled though and, for example, Vedantin Ping Luo even has a certification in Vinyasa Ashtanga by BNS Iyengar, the head teacher at Mysore Mandala, one of our Indian top centers.
With years of experience and the highest online ratings and reviews, Present Moment is clearly at the forefront of the yoga retreat industry. The managers and staff are devoted to their guests, and offer a friendliness and community atmosphere untypical of many larger successful resorts. This is a true treat for the stressed-out guest – warm days filled with yoga, activities and relaxation. Lightly cool nights for socializing or retreating from the world with your beloved. A tropical getaway with the emphasis on wellness and harmonious living. What could be more appealing?
About the area: Trocones
Trocones, in the state of Guerrero, is a stone's throw from Zihuatenejo, the Pacific paradise made famous in the movie The Shawshank Redemption. The climate and scenery are very similar – pristine white sands, warm lazy Pacific swells and the easy temptations of a relaxed Mexican lifestyle. The coast is just one small part of Guerrero state, and is dominated by resorts taking advantage of the moderate climate. Although daytime temperatures easily and often reach 30 degrees C (86F), the sea breezes dispel the humidity that can feel oppressive to the uninitiated. This is a tropical area, with occasional overnight heavy rains in the mid-year summer and late-year fall, and the lush results can easily be seen in the mountains that make up most of the region. Those who venture beyond the coastline will be rewarded with cooler mountain air and hikes that are unlikely to cross another hiker's path. This feels like one of the last undiscovered places in the world, despite being part of the popular Triangulo del Sol, or Triangle of the Sun, made up of Acapulco, Zihuatenejo and Taxco.
