While the yoga instruction and tropical location alone are enough to lure most city-dwellers, the ‘Escape the World’ team are very proud to offer their guests something more: meaningful insights into Balinese culture and ways of life.

A walk around the lush garden will uncover statues of gods, burning candles and incense, attesting to the beautiful spirit and culture of Bali. In fact, the journey begins with a Balinese welcome dinner and talk about local culture. Rituals and ceremonies that present offerings to the Hindu gods, demons and sacred volcanoes, mountains and seas, are an integral part of daily life for the Balinese.

During their stay guests will enjoy an interesting class about Balinese offerings to help them understand the meaning and intricacies in the simplest offering. Guests will also travel to the mystical Tirta Empul, a natural spring pool that is considered sacred by the Balinese. Here, a purification ritual is conducted by a local mangku (priest).

Resident teacher and co-founder, Iyan Yaspriyana, assists the journey inward by combining Ashtanga, Iyengar and Hatha yoga with meditation. Guests will feel positively shanti with two hours of daily morning yoga and meditation from the spectacular open-air yoga studio. They will salute the rising sun against the backdrop of Gunung Batur volcano. Evening restorative yoga and meditation brings the day to a perfect close.

Specialising in Ayurvedic treatments, this holistic retreat includes two blissful and rejuvenating spa treatments. The two and a half hour Chakra Dhara treatment will balance your energy flow with the use of warm ayurvedic oils skillfully streamed and massaged over chakra centres.

The 10 Kumara Sakti rooms are built amidst the lush tropical gardens and are linked to each other with stairs and passageways. They offer comfortable yet unpretentious luxury with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, shower and bathtub, hairdryer, kitchenette, telephone, and private terrace with garden mini-bar.

‘Escape the World’ Retreat combines health for body and spirit beautifully and is for yogis who wish to connect with their heart and spirit in a meaningful way. Their guiding philosophy is summed up by Iyan, “to nurture the soul by opening the senses, to open deeper to the joy of life.” What more can you ask for?

About the area: Ubud

Ubud is a town in central Bali that is actually made up of 14 small villages, each run by their own local committee. This is where the 'true' culture of Bali can be seen, with its terraced rice paddies and peaceful air of rural Indonesia. It is also where some of Bali's ancient historical sites can be found, with Elephant Cave and its huge entryway carved into the shape of a demon's mouth being prime among them. Being elevated, Ubud is cooler than the coastal areas, and while it can get chilly at night it is a great place to escape both the heat and the crush of crowds in more tourist-packed spots like Kuta. An ideal spot for nature-lovers, the forests and gorges provide hours of hiking and rafting activities and there are elephant safaris that offer a unique way to spend a day exploring the hinterland.
