AyurYoga Eco-Ashram is one of the few places in India where traditional Hatha yoga meets traditional Ayurveda at a unique location between Mysore and Kerala in south India. This riverside ashram, set in a 18-acre organic farm and sacred forest, is an ideal place for students with high commitment, seeking an authentic body-mind-soul experience in mother nature.
This place was started, and is run by, teachers who are either monks or spiritual seekers who lived in traditional ashram for more than 15 to 20 years and dedicated their life exclusively for the practice and teaching of yoga. What sets this ashram apart from other places is that it is the only ashram in India which has no guru, no dogma, no-cult feeling, yet at the same time you can learn about all gurus and traditions of yoga, without sacrificing your freedom of thinking.

In fact, this ashram proudly proclaims on their homepage: “We do not impose any fixed manuals, guidelines, books, traditions, rules, etc. We do not promise Nirvana (enlightenment) or deep spiritual experiences nor do we bang you with some abstract spiritual philosophies. What we teach is simple yoga and meditation practices that can be of practical use in your daily life, to harmonize all facets of life, including diet, sleep, sex, relationships and work attitudes”

The teachers are very open minded and rational. The founder of the ashram, Krishna Chaitanya, is a rebel who warns all students not to believe in any gurus, traditions, or systems blindly. He loves quoting western scientists and philosophers to explain the essentials of ancient Yoga for people living under stress in modern society.

This freedom of spirit and luxury of nature comes at a cost! The yoga teacher trainings in this ashram are not only expensive, but also are rigorous with 8+ hours daily schedule, taught by five/six expert teachers, while 20+ staff work hard to give you delicious vegetarian meals, and offers one of the cleanest accommodations you can find in India. You are expected to immerse completely, with no touristy distractions or parties you might be expecting to have in India. The silence is strictly observed between 10 pm till 10 am and there are restrictions on the use of mobile phones and internet.
