Yoga in Costa Rica: Our top choices
» Here is our selection of the best yoga retreats, yoga holidays and yoga teacher trainings in Costa Rica «
Costa Rica is one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world: almost a quarter of this Central American nation is covered with national parks and protected areas. Not surprisingly, this is a popular eco-tourism destination attracting many visitors who enjoy trekking, bird watching and adventure activities. Its tropical rainforest, live volcanoes, rich flora and fauna, and white sandy beaches both on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea offer the ultimate escape for nature lovers.
Costa Rica is also a paradise for yoga enthusiasts: who could resist doing asanas before a beach view and to the sound of tropical birds and the lapping waves of the ocean? There are many yoga vacations and yoga retreat packages on offer here catering to the foreign tourist, mostly in the swanky resorts which have large wooden decks overlooking the ocean on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Some of the most popular yoga resorts are located in beach towns like Montezuma, Malpais and Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula in the Pacific Ocean, Puerto Jiminez and Punta Banco in south Costa Rica on the Pacific coast, and Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side. Well-known teachers from around the world are invited to guide yoga retreats during the tourist season in a unique and beautiful environment. There are also many intensive yoga teacher training programs organized here, accredited by the Yoga Alliance.
There are two main seasons in Costa Rica. From December to April, the climate is dry and its considered to be summer. The wet season starts in May and continues until November. September and October are Costa Rica’s rainiest months, and this is also the hurricane season. Temperatures hover around 80ºF (27ºC) and 85ºF (30ºC) throughout the year.
